Granville College’s Veterinary Technician Assistant Program provides students with the critical components of animal care leading to a career as a key member of a Veterinary health care team. This program is offered full time on campus over 24 weeks and includes a practicum. Successful completion of this program will provide students with a VETERINARY TECHNICIAN ASSISTANT DIPLOMA from Granville College.

Upon completion of this program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
Veterinary Office Fundamentals
- Understand medical terminology as it applies to the veterinary profession;
- Understand the science of animal anatomy and physiology;
- Identify with the most common companion animals found in the veterinary practice and learn their basic behavior;
- Perform calculations of drugs, dispensing, and administration;
- Understand the meaning of supportive care for the patient and overall clinical procedures.
Surgical Assisting
- Understand booking and admitting procedures for surgery through to discharge;
- Understand how to prepare the patient, assist during the procedures and administer post-operative surgical care;
- Understand how to prioritize patients, radiology and dentistry;
- Understand laboratory skill procedures and protocols.
Small Animal Health Management
- Understand the overall aspect of health management in veterinary care with an emphasis on nutrition, medical conditions, parasites, vaccines, and preventative medicate for companion pets;
- Understand the concerns and handling of exotic-specific species.
Communication Skills, Client Services and Career Planning
- Understand the foundational skills required for front-ofoffice assistants, including software applications, ethics and professional development;
- Communicate effectively both orally and written and demonstrate skills in presenting materials both in reports and by oral presentation.
- Understand veterinary software applications, ethics and professional development.
Veterinary Office Procedures
- Manage patient data, including invoicing, estimates, scheduling, inventory and pet insurance;
- Understand all aspects surrounding euthanasia and grief management.

Each course within the program will evaluate students as follows:
- Quizzes
- Assignments
- Projects
- Practical and written exams (both mid-term and final)
Completion Requirements
In order for students to graduate from the program and receive a Veterinary Technician Assistant Diploma from Granville College they must:
- Attain at least a 70% average in each individual course;
- Attend and successfully complete the required hours of practicum;
- Submit all practicum forms to the Instructor or college administrator;
- Pay all fees and tuition in full to Granville College.
